[LBD #97] Do we need "protection" from negative energy?
The truth + the good news!

Whenever I've been asked how to best protect oneself from external negative energy, my answer is quite different from a lot of what you might hear out there.
It's not the usual defensive shielding or avoiding.
Rather, it's proactively strengthening yourself from the inside that actually provides the best defense against dark energies. That's why I focus on cultivating empowerment.
When you have done the inner work to release past mental and emotional baggage, you are more in touch with your own goodness, and naturally radiate that light outward. This helps to counteract lower-frequency energies (both intentional and unintentional) that might be hovering in your environment or in the minds of your adversaries. In addition, when your vibrational baseline is already high, not only are you less of a vibrational match to lower frequency situations, but you can more easily identify whether or not negative energy is yours or from an external source.
Even so, no matter how healed and self-aware you may be, part of the empath experience is naturally being more energetically porous than the average human. This can result in picking up unwanted energies from time to time. Whether it's from a trip to the grocery store, an amazing concert, a passerby on the street, or an email exchange, perhaps you've noticed that these types of situations can have an effect on how you feel. Sometimes, you may feel fine afterward, but other times, there may be a lingering sense of a particular emotion, fatigue, or even physical symptoms and bad vibes.
I had a recent client who was dealing with the effects of a direct psychic attack. After clearing it, he asked me how to prevent it from happening again.
Perhaps you've wondered this, too?
I know I've been there, many times, in fact—as the proverbial sponge weighed down by the energy in the room... many hours later, or even on the opposite end of something more insidious like dark magic.
Here's the Truth:
There is no way to completely protect ourselves from negative energy.
I know this may be disheartening to hear but stay with me for a moment...
Just as our hair and clothes pick up the smoky residue of that recent outing, we may also pick up the physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual energies of our environment and the people in it. Moreover, just like prayer and positive intentions can affect us, so too, can negative emotions and malicious intentions. And just like we learn the basic skills of showering and doing our laundry on a regular basis, it is important to learn some skills to help you deal with external negative energy. Being able to navigate various energetic situations is how we can regain our sense of safety and confidence, inside and out.
In other words, being energetically sensitive doesn't mean you are doomed to a life sentence of bombardment by external negative energies.
The good news?
As sensitive beings, we actually have a unique advantage. We are usually able to sense the effects of negative energy rather quickly—more so than the average person. Although this may seem more like a curse than a blessing (to see, hear, or FEEL the unpleasant or terrifying effects), the good news is that if we can sense it, then we can clear it and be free of it—sooner rather than later!
That's why it's important to understand how certain energies affect you. Instead of wishing you were different, questioning your instincts, or thinking you're imagining things, you get to lean into trusting your own energetic sensibilities. Just as with any skill, the more you practice, the better you become.
To sum it up:
I know from experience that being sensitive to all kinds of energies isn't always pleasant, and can even feel scary at times.
While we can't completely prevent ourselves from feeling the effects of negative energy, we can certainly regain control once we are privy to its presence.
